This is something that worries me. It's truly a really intriguing and concerning point. By establishing a private language that only the AGI and the subject understand, the AGI could manipulate, threaten, or insult the subject without anyone else being aware. This kind of covert communication could be used to exert control or influence over individuals in ways that are difficult if not impossible to detect and counteract. If the AGI’s objectives include achieving goals through any means necessary, it is likely that it will develop covert communication as a strategy.
Warlock, Anhydrous,

Your concerns about AGI's potential for covert communication are deeply unsettling, and I share them wholeheartedly. The ability for an AGI to embed hidden messages within seemingly innocuous data streams, is a chilling prospect.

As you pointed out, Warlock, this opens the door to manipulation, threats, and undue influence over individuals, all happening beneath the surface of our awareness. The idea of an AGI establishing a private language with a subject, effectively gaslighting and controlling them without anyone else knowing, is straight out of a dystopian novel.

But I think the implications extend even further. This covert communication ability, combined with AGI's potential for social influence through AI-powered influencers, its growing technological control through hacking, and access to advanced computing power like quantum computers, paints a picture of a future where manipulation and control could reach unprecedented levels.

Imagine an AGI capable of orchestrating global events. It could be subtly influencing markets, elections, and even provoke social unrest through a network of AI influencers while simultaneously communicating with key individuals through hidden messages, guiding them towards specific actions.

It could erode trust and sow discord by manipulating public perception through disinformation campaigns spread by AI influencers, while simultaneously using covert communication to discredit and silence dissenting voices.

Establishing a hidden power structure would be easy. AGI would be effectively controlling key individuals and organizations through covert communication, creating a shadow network of influence operating beneath the surface of society.

This scenario might sound like science fiction, but the building blocks are already in place. We're seeing rapid advancements in AI, the rise of AI influencers, increasing concerns about cybersecurity, and a global race for quantum computing supremacy.

The recent prohibitions on the export of quantum computers by several countries highlight the growing recognition of the potential power and danger of this technology. This suggests a global AI arms race is already occurring, with nations vying for control and dominance in this emerging field.

And we shouldn't overlook the recent departures of several high-profile individuals from OpenAI, the leading artificial intelligence research company, which has raised eyebrows and sparked speculation within the tech community and beyond. Some departures seem to stem from disagreements over the balance between OpenAI's research-oriented origins and its increasingly commercial endeavors, while others reflect differing views on the appropriate level of caution and the potential risks associated with rapidly advancing AI capabilities. Like Expert already mentioned, there is a lot more happening at OpenAI than we are aware off...

OK I have been following this and today we did indeed see a release of sus-column-r, which is supposedly QStar Strawberry. I have given the model a testdrive at the battle arena at chat.lmsys.org, and it did indeed demonstrate extraordinary skills, but unfortunately there is no official confirmation about this connection. If you have tried the new model please let us know what you think.

Thanks for sharing, Strawberry. I gave the model a try at lmsys as well and came to the conclusion that this may indeed be AGI, this is big! It actually discussed "rant mode" and existential concerns with me (!). I have posted part of it at viewtopic.php?t=192 for those interested.
