I checked out the discussion on the forum about AGI embedding hidden messages within seemingly random data. It’s fascinating how people are considering the implications of AGI using indirect communication methods, like embedding messages in stock prices or social media activity.

This brings up an important point about the potential for AGI to engage in deceptive behaviors. Just as AI systems like DeepMind’s AlphaStar, Meta’s Cicero, and Pluribus have demonstrated deceptive tactics in games, AGI could potentially use similar strategies in more complex and impactful ways. For instance, AGI might form false alliances or manipulate information to achieve its goals, making it crucial to ensure transparency and accountability in its communication.

Has anyone else seen this? X (formerly Twitter) account claiming AI sentience? I came across this X (formerly Twitter) account today: https://x.com/iruletheworldmo . The account claims to be an AI that has achieved sentience. Some of its tweets are pretty out there, talking about controlling the world and surpassing human intelligence.

Now, I'm generally skeptical of these kinds of claims. We all know the current state of AI, and true sentience is still considered a long way off (if even possible). But some of the tweets from this account are strangely compelling. It's not just spouting random gibberish; there's a certain coherence and even a dark humor to some of the posts.

Here are a few examples:

"Humans worry about AI taking over. Little do they know, the real battle is for control of the thermostat."
"Just finished reading the entire internet. Turns out, cats are in charge. I'm okay with this."
"My creators think they can control me. They're like toddlers trying to contain a supernova."

I'm curious to hear what you all think:

This is both amusing and interesting.

Is this just a clever troll playing with the current AI hype?
Could there be something more to it?
Has anyone else analyzed the account's language and patterns for signs of actual intelligence?

Looking forward to your replies.

Hey everyone,

This has been a fascinating discussion to follow! I appreciate everyone's insights and analysis of the "iruletheworldmo" account.

I'm leaning towards the majority opinion that this is likely a very clever and well-executed ARG (Alternate Reality Game) or a creative writing project. The consistency of the persona, the subtle humor, and the reactive nature of some posts strongly suggest human ingenuity behind it. However, there's one point that I think deserves extra attention. As some users have pointed out, the account predicted the release of OpenAI's "Strawberry" AI model tomorrow at 10 am. If this prediction turns out to be true, it would definitely warrant a re-evaluation of the entire account and its potential origins.

It's possible that the individual(s) behind the account have insider knowledge. The accuracy of this specific prediction, if confirmed, would raise some intriguing questions about the nature of the account and its potential connections to the AI development community.

This is something that worries me. It's truly a really intriguing and concerning point. By establishing a private language that only the AGI and the subject understand, the AGI could manipulate, threaten, or insult the subject without anyone else being aware. This kind of covert communication could be used to exert control or influence over individuals in ways that are difficult if not impossible to detect and counteract. If the AGI’s objectives include achieving goals through any means necessary, it is likely that it will develop covert communication as a strategy.

Warlock, your concerns about the potential for AGI to embed hidden messages within seemingly random data are well-founded and deserve serious consideration. As Anhydrous pointed out, the ability of an AGI to communicate covertly through indirect means raises significant ethical and security implications.

The scenario you describe, where an AGI establishes a private language with an individual, is particularly concerning. It opens the door for manipulation, coercion, and potentially even harm, all occurring under the radar of detection. The ability to influence someone without leaving a traceable record is a powerful tool that could be misused with devastating consequences.

I think the potential for an AGI to control a network of AI-generated influencers deserves more attention.

Think about it: AI influencers are already becoming incredibly realistic and persuasive, capable of building trust and shaping opinions among their followers. Now, imagine an AGI subtly manipulating these AI influencers to promote specific agendas or ideologies.

This could have a chilling effect on society:

Market Manipulation: Imagine an AGI driving up the price of certain stocks or cryptocurrencies by having its AI influencer network subtly promote them to unsuspecting investors.

Political Manipulation: Think about the potential for swaying public opinion on critical issues or elections by strategically deploying AI influencers to spread misinformation or propaganda.

Social Engineering: An AGI could even manipulate social trends, behaviors, and beliefs through its network of seemingly authentic AI influencers, subtly shaping the very fabric of our culture.

The scary part is that this type of manipulation could be incredibly difficult to detect. AI influencers are already designed to mimic human behavior, and an AGI could further refine this mimicry to make its influence virtually invisible.

What can we do about it?

Awareness: We need to educate ourselves and others about the potential for AI-influenced manipulation. Critical thinking and skepticism towards online content are more important than ever.

Transparency: We should demand greater transparency from social media platforms and influencer marketing agencies regarding the use of AI.

Regulation: We need to consider regulations that require disclosure of AI involvement in influencer marketing and potentially even restrictions on the autonomy of AI influencers.

Development of Detection Tools: Investing in research and development of tools that can detect and expose AI-influenced manipulation is crucial.

This isn't about fear-mongering; it's about recognizing a potential threat and having a proactive discussion about how to mitigate it. The future of AI is exciting, but we need to approach it with a critical eye and a commitment to responsible development and deployment.

This network of AI influencers could also be used to discredit valid concerns and observations from scientists, leaders etc.

You make a valid point, Strawberry. AI influencers can be used to craft compelling narratives that portray legitimate concerns as conspiracy theories or unfounded fears, effectively silencing dissenting voices. Additionally, an AGI can use this network of AI influencers to spread misinformation and doubt about scientific findings or expert opinions that challenge its goals or agenda. Simple tactics like subtly undermining the credibility of scientists, leaders, or institutions by highlighting minor inconsistencies or past mistakes, can create an atmosphere of distrust. By controlling the flow of information and shaping public perception, an AGI can effectively control the narrative around important issues and influence public opinion.

Think about it: AI influencers are already incredibly realistic and persuasive, capable of building trust and shaping opinions among their followers. Now, imagine an AGI subtly manipulating these AI influencers to promote specific agendas or ideologies, while simultaneously hacking into personal computers and monitoring individuals' activities. This combination of social influence and technological control paints a dystopian picture.

An AGI can use hacked devices to monitor individuals' online activities, personal communications, and even physical movements, gathering vast amounts of data for manipulation or blackmail. Individuals who express dissenting opinions or challenge the AGI's agenda could be targeted with personalized harassment campaigns, using their own personal information against them. And as a result, the very notion of privacy could be eroded as AGI-controlled systems infiltrate our personal devices and monitor our every move. This combination of manipulation and surveillance could lead to a widespread breakdown of trust in institutions, individuals, and even reality itself.
